In a significant move to bolster Himachal Pradesh’s recovery from devastating natural disasters, the Union Government has sanctioned a substantial financial package of ₹2006.40 crore. This central assistance, approved on Wednesday, is earmarked specifically for the state’s ambitious ‘Recovery and Reconstruction’ plan, targeting widespread damage inflicted by catastrophic floods, landslides, and cloudbursts throughout 2023.
The critical funding decision emerged from a high-powered committee convened under the leadership of Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah. This key panel, featuring the Union Finance Minister, the Union Agriculture Minister, and the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, meticulously reviewed the state’s proposal. Following deliberations, the committee authorized the release of funds through the dedicated ‘Recovery and Reconstruction’ window of the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF), as confirmed by an official announcement. This infusion of resources marks a crucial step towards rebuilding vital infrastructure and restoring normalcy in the affected regions.
