In light of the recent natural disasters that have devastated parts of Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh, former Chief Minister and ex-Union Minister Shanta Kumar has issued a public appeal urging actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut to step forward and contribute to the state’s disaster relief fund.
Expressing concern over the plight of families who have lost their homes and loved ones in landslides, Kumar acknowledged the efforts of both the central and state governments, along with some individuals and organizations, in providing immediate relief. However, he expressed disappointment that certain prominent personalities, including Kangana, have not yet contributed to the cause.
Kumar praised Kangana as a talented and courageous daughter of the state who rose from humble beginnings to achieve stardom in Indian cinema. He further stated that with the same determination, she can carve a meaningful space for herself in politics. But for that, he emphasized, it is essential for her to understand the values of public service and empathy towards those in need.
He specifically urged Kangana to make a significant financial contribution to the relief fund at the earliest. Additionally, he suggested that she use her influence in the film industry to encourage other wealthy celebrities to follow suit and support the rebuilding efforts.
Highlighting the role of Members of Parliament, Kumar pointed out that each MP has access to the MPLADS fund—amounting to crores—which can be effectively utilized for relief and rehabilitation work.
He concluded by saying that Himachal Pradesh is among the top five developed states in northern India. With collective efforts from government officials, leaders, and affluent citizens stepping up to donate, the relief fund could accumulate substantial resources. In times of such calamity, he added, serving the affected people is the true form of devotion.
