
Popular television actor and singer Shefali Jariwala, widely recognized for her hit track “Kaanta Laga”, passed away on Friday night at the age of 42. The cause of her death remains unclear as authorities await the results of a postmortem examination.
According to police sources, Shefali’s body was discovered at her residence in Andheri around 1:00 AM on Saturday. A mobile forensic team and Mumbai Police personnel were dispatched to her apartment in the Golden Rays-Y building. Her body was subsequently taken to Cooper Hospital for an autopsy.
Initial reports suggest that she may have suffered a cardiac arrest, although no official confirmation has been issued by her family or representatives.
Shefali was reportedly rushed to Bellevue Multispecialty Hospital by her husband and fellow actor Parag Tyagi. Hospital staff confirmed that she was pronounced dead on arrival at approximately 11:15 p.m.
Her breakout moment came in 2002 with the release of “Kaanta Laga”, a modern remix of a classic song from the 1972 film Samadhi . The track became a nationwide sensation and cemented her status as a pop culture icon.
In addition to her music career, Shefali made a name for herself in Indian television and reality shows. She gained further recognition through her appearances on dance competition Nach Baliye alongside Parag, and later as a contestant on Bigg Boss 13 , hosted by Salman Khan.
The news of her sudden demise has left the entertainment industry in shock, with several celebrities taking to social media to express their grief.
Singer Mika Singh described her passing as “unbelievable” and shared heartfelt condolences. “I’m deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of my dear friend Shefali. You will always be remembered for your grace, smile, and spirit,” he posted.
Actor Kamya Punjabi wrote: “My heart is sinking. Shefali… I can’t get over this news.”
Fellow actor Aly Goni also paid tribute, writing: “RIP Shefali.”
